The following search tools (some brand new) have been added to the àlaBuzz.org Search the Internet list.
Search Engines
DuckDuckGo – A new search engine that separates shopping sites from information sites. Less Spam. Disambiguation page. Icon bar to other sites’ search engines (About.com, Twitter, YouTube, Wikipedia, etc.)
Facesaerch – (Yes, spelled correctly.) An image search engine for faces powered by Google.
Search Engine Comparisons
Here are some metasearch engines that let you quickly and easily compare page results between major search engines.
- BlindSearch – Fun beta experiment. When search engine branding is removed, how differently do you perceive the results? It searches Bing, Google, and Yahoo!
- Bing and Google – Compares search results of Bing and Google search engines. Two-pane results.
- Bingle – Compares search results of Bing and Google. Two-pane results. You can then choose to view just Bing or Google alone.
- TripleMe – Compare results from three search engines in three columns: MSN Live (Bing), Yahoo!, and Google.
- GrabAll – Two-pane results, but you can choose which two (of 7) search engines to compare: Google, Yahoo!, Ask Jeeves, MSN (Bing), DMOZ, Altavista, GigaBlast (an 8th choice, LookSmart, is no longer active).
- Scour – Social metasearch engine that features results from Google, Yahoo!, and MSN (Bing). Easy search engine sort toolbar at top. Vote and comment on search results.
- SearchBoth – Two pane results where you can compare Google, Yahoo!, MSN (Bing), Ask, Dogpile, MetaCrawler, Altavista, or WebSearch. Arrows at top let you easily switch between your two choices.
- Soovle – A carousel of search results from Amazon.com, Answers.com, Google, MSN (Bing), Wikipedia, Yahoo!, and YouTube. Each search engine suggests more specific search terms for your topic, and clicking on one will take you directly to results of that search engine.
To learn more about search engines visit Phil Bradley’s Weblog, where librarians and the Internet meet. His June 11th post alerted me to the comparison search engines that I have added to my list. Click here to read his article.
