You launched a blog. If you’re like me, you’re amazed at how riveting it is. We bloggers are fueled by creative euphoria, the urge to communicate, and visions of success. Would former teachers and employers even recognize us now? We are ambitious. We are Master of our universe. We are in the Blog Zone…. The trick is to stay there.
There are 5 smart practices bloggers can follow to remain in the Blog Zone over the long haul. They conserve your energies, and lead to blogging longevity and success.
- Focus on writing content – For instance, leave design customization to theme developers. Choose a simple theme that features text and image content to good advantage, and use as few plugins as possible. Your site will run better, and you will keep your focus on writing content. RECOMMENDATION: ZenVerse themes.
- Publish short posts twice a week – Give yourself a break. Not every post needs to be an in-depth review or treatment of a subject. Compile a list post; they are popular with readers and have high retweet rates. Share a video related to your blog’s topic; simply write a brief intro, and embed.
- Choose one blogging community – Narrow your involvement to one blogging community, at least until you are well established in it. Relationships develop over time, and with consistent interaction. Don’t spread yourself too thin when networking, and take the time to show genuine interest in others. RECOMMENDATION: BlogEngage.
- Skim your feed reader – Does it seem like you add new feeds to your reader every day? That’s OK. The feeds are there for your reference should you need them. Don’t get overwhelmed or avoid because you can’t read them all. Quickly scan the titles and skim off the cream.
- Go to bed when you feel tired – Remember also to eat a balanced meal, shower and groom to usual standards, visit with friends and family, pay your bills on time, exercise, and get some fresh air. RECOMMENDATION: Read a good novel.
There is much to do, and many bloggers work with great passion. Because blogging is such a stimulating experience, we often ignore common sense while pushing through to reach one more goal. This eventually leads to guaranteed burn out, when the Blog Zone becomes the Fog Zone. Be aware when you’re straining.
An amazing thing happens to us when we do less, but do it consistently. Over a period of time, we accomplish something of value. Maybe less is more because we concentrate better when we’re refreshed. Or maybe the subconscious mind sketches in ideas while we are doing other things. Whatever it is, the Blog Zone thrives.

Hi there,
You have listed some important tips here and I especially like #3. The Blog Engage community is a great resource where you can meet many bloggers and learn from their experience.
Thanks

BlogEngage is innovative, too. One of my articles finally reached “published” status there, and I’m sure it is because of the ongoing voting contest.
Anyway, I took the time to check out blogs from a variety of categories. I found so many excellent articles. I was subscribing to RSS feeds right and left!
