Niche Blogging for Beginners

One of the best ways for your blog to get a high PageRank, and therefore more traffic, is to target a niche audience. The Web contains a huge marketplace. If you can cater to a tiny part of that market, a niche, you’re in position to build site traffic!

People search for a zillion things on the Internet, so the little guys and new bloggers shouldn’t bother competing in the most popular markets. Instead, choose an area of interest that can be broken down into categories. If you like cars, zero in on a particular make: Ford. Then zero in on a particular model: Ford Mustang. Keep drilling down. How about classic Ford Mustangs? Maybe classic convertible Ford Mustangs? Maybe even classic convertible Ford Mustangs owned by the rich and famous?

It’s all about supply and demand. You’re looking for a topic that generates a relative high number of searches each month (demand), with a relative low number of search engine page results (supply). There are people who know the exact ratio to look for, but it’s an industry “secret” that won’t be revealed for cheap.

Even the experts cannot guarantee that a niche will be effective in drawing traffic or selling ads. It’s like following the stock market, you learn the “rules” but also develop a feel for it. Which brings me to Ralph Damiano at ForTheLose.org/. He is creating mini niche sites for cash flow. He says he’s probably not doing everything right, but is satisfied with the results. Happily, he is good enough to explain in detail how he does it, including how he uses Google AdWords to find keywords for a niche. In conclusion, I leave you with this TIP: Read Ralph’s 3-part series on how to build a niche site. You’ll be inspired.
