Numbers First, Keywords Second

Usually you need to think of a keyword first. You enter it into a keyword search tool to see if it has potential. You’re then looking for numbers for how often people search the term and how many page results make up the competition. My experience is usually…nope…zip…shoot, I thought that’d be a good one…fuddy duddy…. Until I run out of ideas.

With Gimme a Niche!, you instead first set the desired numbers for search volume and search results. When you run the program, you get keywords that fit within the ranges you selected for volume and results. All of the keywords you get should have high search demand compared to low volume of page results.

Search that Keyword

There is a handy Google search box at the bottom of the tool. Use it to check page results. I did notice some inaccuracy with the search volume and page results for a keyword or two. For instance the keyword “rottweiler puppies for sale” said it “gets 2300 monthly searches, and returns 0 search results.” Upon testing the search, there were actually 979,000 Google page results.

Be suspicious of a keyword that says there are “0 search results.” It’s obviously a glitch. However, most of the keywords I randomly selected to test with a Google search resulted in a number of page results close to what the tool stated.

Gimme a Niche! Jogs New Ideas

Not all of the keywords that come up are so hot. Most of them are brand names or names of a business location. But if you keep clicking on the “Gimme a Keyword!” button, you will discover keywords that jog your thinking.

For instance, when “Preparation H for wrinkles” popped up, I smiled. (I’ve always wondered if that was true.) Why not buy a tube? Give it a fair trial (find a suitable subject, as I certainly have no wrinkles…ha, ha). Do a lit review and…voilà! Create a website on the topic.

Google Adwords Keyword Tool confirmed that search and results numbers for “Prep…H…” fit in the range of a potentially good keyword niche. I wondered, what other health-related topics might be fodder for niche sites that search engines favor?

Therein lies the greatest strength of Gimme a Keyword. It helps you think outside the box when your cognitive wheels are stuck in a rut.

Keeping up with multitudenous search tools and search engine optimization (SEO) can be overwhelming for anyone.  I suggest the easy path: Spend some time at Pandia Search Central.  Stay in the loop regarding the latest on search engines and search engine marketing, or brush up on your Internet searching skills.  The Norway-based site has been covering these topics since 1998, and knows how to share their knowledge in a user-friendly manner.

Pandia Tutorials

Pandia Search Engine Marketing 101 is a a beginner’s tutorial on SEO and site promotion.  It covers targeted keyword phrases, search engine friendly code and web design, link popularity, and search engine submissions.  Learn about meta tags, get the big picture on inbound links, and find the blog search engines where you should submit your blog site.  This tutorial will help you easily cover the SEO basics that most websites don’t bother with, giving your site a competitive edge with search engines.

The Pandia Goalgetter is a short and easy search engine tutorial.  The instructions make Internet searching “as easy as ordering pizza.”  It covers Boolean operators [AND, AND NOT, OR] and character operators such as the [*] asterisk wildcard, ["..."] double quotation phrases, and the special [~] Google tilde operator for keyword synonyms.  Goalgetter also explains the unique functions of search engines, search directories, metasearch engines, and specialized search engines.  Applying Goalgetter tips will reduce the number of your query page results, while increasing their overall relevance.

An Overview and Gateway to Internet Searching Resources

First, Pandia provides an informative overview of any given category of Internet searching.  Second, Pandia acts as a gateway that links you to recommended resources.  The array of Internet searching resources is extensive.   Here’s a sampling of search categories that Pandia covers:

• Search trends – A gateway to follow Web search trends and gather online market intelligence.
• Search engine optimization – A collection of search engine optimization and submission sites and resources.
• Shopping search – Shopping search engines and online shopping malls.
• People search -  Resources to help you find people in the U.S., North America, Europe, and the U.K.
• Kids and Teens – Search engines and search tools for music, videos, homework help, and more.

Metasearch Engines

The only disappointment I find at Pandia is their very own Powersearch metasearch engine, which promises a simultaneous search of Yahoo!, MSN (in today’s world, Bing), AlltheWeb, Ask.com, Wisenut, and more.  When I experimented with several search topics, it only pulled results from two sources: Yahoo! and Qkport (a live portal and internet search engine).  Skip Pandia Powersearch.

Do investigate the suggested metasearch engines listed at the bottom of the Metasearch Page.  Finding one that combines results from two or more search engines you like will enhance your Internet search activities.  For instance, PolyMeta searches five search engines at once (Ask, Bing, Cuil, Google, and Yahoo! Search), and separates each search engine”s results at the top of the page for your convenience.

Special Search Tools

Pandia has organized link lists to special search tools on the Powersearch Page.  You’ll find pathways to reference tools like dictionaries and encyclopedias; multi-media files like images, film, music, radio, and podcasts; business and finance resources; search tools for micro-blogging and social media; and more.  New tools are clearly indicated, helping users stay up-to-date.

Access the Invisible Web

At the very bottom of the Powersearch Page, Pandia provides a link list of search resources “giving access to the invisible Web, i.e. information sources that are not easily reached using a traditional search engine.”  You’ll find paths to specialized search engines, scholarly resources, answer services, and more.

Final Summary of Pandia Search Central

Pandia Search Central is a rich and valuable resource of information about search engines, Internet searching, and search engine optimization.

Pros

• The Pandia Search Engine News Blog is probably the easiest, and most comprehensible, way to stay up-to-date with events in the search engine world.
• Pandia Search Engine Marketing 101 can effectively be used to plan, organize, and implement SEO and marketing objectives of a site.
  

Cons

• The Pandia Powersearch metasearch engine is a shocking disappointment.
• A few links and bits of text need to be updated, and I’d like to see when tutorials were last updated.
