PSD Designs

Weebly is looking for layered PSD designs, which they will convert for use on their platform. Contest entries require no HTML or CSS coding.

Expert Panel of Judges

A panel of design experts will select 10 finalists. Then Weebly users will vote on the finalists to determine the winners. First Place wins $10,000, Second Place receives $2,000, and Third Place gets $1,000.

Opportunity Beyond Winning

Even entries that do not win, may have a chance of being adopted into Weebly’s collection of free themes made available to their users. Such themes include a link to the designer’s profile page with their website/portfolio address, and designer credit is given in the theme’s source code.

Best Websites in 96 Industries

WebAward will name the best websites in 96 industries, while setting a standard of excellence for website development. Entries will be judged on the following seven criteria:

7. Ease of use

Awards and Benefits

Only one Best Website in each industry will win the WebAward. The Outstanding Web Site and Standard of Excellence awards may be awarded to multiple winners in each category. There is no cash prize. The benefits of winning include recognition, prestige, and promotional opportunities.

The deadline to enter is May 25, 2010. Entered web sites must have been in general use for at least part of 2009 or early 2010. The entry fee is $225, except for the non-profit category, which is $125. Visit the WebAward site for more details.

Tools for Video Post Workflow

I like collecting videos with VodPod. The basic service is free. You can use the VodPod browser button to save a video from most video services, and write a blurb for it while it’s fresh in your mind – all in one easy step. Granted, the blurb may be too long for a video player caption, but it’s saved safely in your VodPod library where you can access it later to copy/paste it into a video post.

There are several VodPod video plugins that vary from page galleries to post embeds. VodPod provides gallery and video sidebar widgets.

But the simple way to insert a video into a post is to copy the embed code and paste it into the HTML tab while editing. No plugin required!

Ease Burden of Frequent Publication

Whatever services or tools used, video posting eases the burden of frequent publishing for webmasters. At the same time, it offers readers something quick and visual to enjoy.

I will probably use video posts often at àlaFurBabies. They’re especially fitting for a niche blog targeting pet-lovers. Pet videos are abundant, and people love to watch them.
